Harold M. “Ike” Wolfgram, was born in Appleton, WI on September 8, 1940, to Fred and Theresa (Heidl) Wolfgram. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was a Personnel Specialist Airman 2nd Class. In August 1982 he married Lois Verbrick and they celebrated 42 years of marriage this year.
A favorite spot for Ike was Aruba and vacations to Mexico and many places in the United States (Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Louisiana, Las Vegas, Washington, DC and many others). He never missed cheering on the Green Bay Packers or the Wisconsin Badgers football teams and at times the Milwaukee Brewers. He loved a parade and enjoyed the Appleton downtown parades, especially Flag Day when he wore his Uncle Sam suit, and the Christmas parade. He loved entertaining family and friends for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
He enjoyed working in his yard and keeping it in tip-top shape. You could always find Ike doing something outside; mowing the lawn, and if it didn’t look just right it was mowed a second time! He also loved trimming bushes, weeding the flower beds and filling the bird feeders and watching the chickadees, cardinals and yellow finches from the deck.
He was a member of the Appleton Area Jaycees and served on the Soap Box Derby team. He also served as an Appleton Alderman for the (old) 16th ward which spirited his interest in following local and national politics. He was also a member of the Appleton Elks Club where he served a two-year term as chaplain.
Ike was manager and buyer for a local clothing store for many years. He retired from Lawrence University in 2009.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Lois, his son Randy (Carol), grandchildren: Madison and Ross. He is further survived by sisters-in-law: Darlene (Denny) Walsh, Lynn Van Buskirk and Carol Jansen; many nieces and nephews as well as lifelong friend Tom Kottke and good friend Bob Buchman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Beverly, three brothers and their wives: Gerald “Jerry”, Fred (Shirley), and Jim (Pat).
Many thanks to very special neighbors and friends Mary and Jack VanTreeck and Gus Mendoza for their help over the years which allowed Ike to stay at home. A huge thank you to Ike’s niece Nancy Kerns for her many visits and care packages.
Thank you to the staff at Brewster Village and Moments Hospice for the gentle care provided to Ike.
At Harold’s request there will be a private graveside service for the family.
