Harold Bertschy, age 87, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Harold was born in Manitowoc County on March 13, 1920, son of the late Edward and Ida (Kuck) Bertschy. During World War II, Harold served as a member of the U.S. Army, 127th Infantry, D company, and was discharged honorably in 1943. On June 23, 1945, he married the former Elda Neitzke; she survives. Over the years, he had been employed at Scolding Locks in Appleton as well as working for over thirty-four years at Riverside Paper. Harold was a longtime and faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton.
Harold is survived by his wife of sixty-one years: Elda Bertschy of Appleton; a son: Jim (Sherry) Bertschy of Appleton; two grandchildren: Stephanie and Andrew Bertschy of Appleton; a sister: Doris Mielke of Kaukauna; sister-in-law: Marion (Cecil) Piper of Oshkosh. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, a brother, three brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the Wichmann Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Paul Brinkman of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service.
