Doerfler, Harold N.

Age 86, died unexpectedly, Saturday morning, April 19, 2003. He was born September 8, 1916, to the late Edward L. and Louise (Fischer) Doerfler, in Appleton and had been an area resident all of his life. On June 20, 1940, he was married to Lila M. Doerfler and shared 60 years together before her death on October 18, 2001. Harold served with U. S. Army Air Corps, during WW II in the Medical Corps. He was formerly employed by Kimberly Clark Corporation at the Lakeview Mill for 40 years retiring at the age of 60. In his younger days he enjoyed squirrel hunting with his 22 rifle, pitching horse shoes, softball pitching, with a 18 strike out game, playing cards, especially sheepshead, bowled in the Grocers League for 30 years and was an avid golfer in Wisconsin and in Florida in the winter for over 30 years. Both he and his wife Lila truly loved their shuffleboard. Survivors include three sisters, Dell (Med) Medlan, Appleton; Florence Verhoeven, Appleton; Rene Paden, Appleton; a sister-in-law, Agnes Krummaker, Menasha; nieces and nephews, Ellen (Jim) Conway. Nieces, Lynn (Michael) VanDyke, Kurt (Sue) Schumacher, Lisa Schumacher, Kory (Sue) Schumacher, Susan Michalski, and many cousins and friends. The funeral liturgy for Harold will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 25, 2003, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, with Father Michael K. O’Rourke officiating. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am Friday, until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
