Age 81, died in Appleton, on January 26, 2002, surrounded by loving family. He was born to the late John and Delia (Erst) DeBruin on March 12, 1920 in Kimberly. On January 22, 1949, he married Cecelia Blumreich in Seymour. She preceded him in death on October 13, 1998. Harold was a proud veteran of World War II and earned a purple heart in the South Pacific Arena. Before and after the war, Harold spent 43 years as a proud employee at Kimberly Clark. Harold enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Leigh Lake, fishing, jig saw puzzles, mind games, and playing cards. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include a son and two daughters: John DeBruin of Shawano, Nancy (Dennis) Ball of Columbus, Wisconsin, Deb (Jerry) Groeschel of Kimberly; five grandchildren: Kristen and Jenna Ball of Columbus, Joseph, Shari and Mark Groeschel of Kimberly; further survived by two sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog “Emie.” Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, parents, two brothers: Clarence and Richard DeBruin, nine brother-in-laws and spouses. The funeral liturgy will be at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Rev. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to the hospice nurses and the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center.
