Sommer, Harland, W.
(Man of God)
“Har”
Age 74, was called to his eternal home on, Saturday December 7 , 2002. Harland left this world to be with his Lord Jesus . Har always put his trust in his Lord Jesus whom he truly loved, and he assuredly was a man of God.
Har always instructed his family in the teachings of God’s word. Many times he had said at family gatherings that his greatest desire was that some day he would meet each and every one of his family in Heaven. Then he would give thanks for the meal that would take so long the food would be cold.
Har was born July 18, 1928 in Appleton, Wisconsin, and was the son of the late William and Erna (Mueller) Sommer. He attended Appleton High School and worked at Menasha Corporation for 45 years. He proudly served in the armed forces from 1951 – 1953. Har also served as an Elder and member of Community Church of Appleton. He was the unofficial greeter and encouraged and greeted everyone who came through the door. Har’s favorite thing in life was to know and serve his Savior, whether in his family, church family, or the community.
Har was preceded in death by his stepmother Dorothy (Bell) Sommer , his brother Norman Sommer and daughter Linda Faye Sommer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Constance L. (Beusch) Sommer; two daughters: Cynthia (David) Duncan and Debra (Thomas) Passehl; two sons: Gregory (Mary) Sommer and Daniel (Rebecca) Sommer; and sixteen grandchildren: Benjamin, Andrew, Samuel, Solomon , Ashley, Jessica (Jorrit), David (Leah), Todd, Troy, Abbey, Betsy, Maria, Jennifer, Arin, Regan , and Megan; three great-grandchildren: Calli, Phillip, and Willem; and a brother: Gordon Sommer.
