Age 80, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at Appleton Medical Center. Gwyn was born on July 25, 1921 in Appleton, son of the late James and Lulu (Ferguson) Johnson. On September 1, 1944, Gwyn married Patricia Droes in Appleton, and they have enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. He was a lifelong member of the Fox Valley Seventh-Day Adventist Church. In his professional life, Gwyn was always involved in the forestry service. 20 years ago, Gwyn and his son-in-law Dan Abendroth, co-developed a land-clearing machine called the American Ranger. Following the design of the American Ranger, Gwyn founded a company to manufacture and distribute the machine. Gwyn was also an avid pilot and loved to fly. He once gave a woman the first flight of her life for her 100th birthday. In addition to flying, Gwyn loved hound dogs, especially his favorite beagle Zoe. He also enjoyed feeding the birds outside. Gwyn will be greatly missed by his wife Patricia; his daughter, Sachy (Daniel) Abendroth, Appleton, Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas Abendroth, Appleton; Barry Johnson, Stoughton; Heidi Johnson, Minneapolis, Minnesota; 6 sisters-in-law, Agnes Johnson; Pauline (Leroy) Heimerman; Beatrice (Lyle) Schwalbach; Beverly (Vernon) Wiese; Mae Johnson, Carmel, Indiana; Mae Johnson, Appleton; precious nephews James and Sheridan Johnson; nieces and nephews, Lora Hoff, Loren Johnson Jr.; Julie Allard; Randy Schwalbach; Ross and Kim Johnson; Robert Johnson Jr.; David Johnson; Mark and Charles Wiese; Gwyn Harke; other grand nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, especially William Maynard. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Gwyn Johnson; his brothers, Loren, Sharidan and Calvin Johnson; and his sister, Ann Harke. The funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, December 23, 2001 at the FOX VALLEY SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, 265 South Green Bay Road, Neenah, with Pastor Don Corkum officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
