Age 69, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born on December 8, 1936 in Green Bay to the late Walter and Marie (Vandersteen) Hofmann. The family eventually moved from Green Bay to Two Rivers where Gretchen graduated from Washington High School. On March 26, 1955 she was united in Marriage to Gordon James Braun in Dubuque, Iowa. She enjoyed books, movies, and spending time with her family at their cottage in Gresham. She had an affinity for dogs and children, and will be sadly missed as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gordon James; her children: Michael Gordon (Partner Tammy Miles), Madison, Hayden Wayne (Debbie) Knight, Cedarburg, WI; Eric Paul (Kim), Portland, OR; Timothy James (fiancée Jo Marie Bergholte), Milwaukee, Scott Patrick (René Lysbeth), Appleton, James Matthew (Sig. other Kasumi Kato), Madison, Julie Catherine (Todd) Hungerford, Appleton; grandchildren: Melissa, Alexander, and Abigail Braun, Adrienne and Arielle Knight, Paul and Jennifer Braun, Christopher, Matthew, and Sarah Braun, Jacqueline Braun, Olivia, Sophie, and Morgan Hungerford; sisters: Donna Shlei, Green Bay, Kay Hofmann, Chicago, IL, Holly (Dean) Andrews, Two Rivers; sister-in-law, Karen Hofmann, Two Rivers; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter “Butch” Hofmann.

According to Gretchen’s wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in her name. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Emergency Medical Staff and St. Elizabeth Hospital.
