Greg Schmitzer, 63, of Appleton, WI, passed away on December 28, 2023. He was born on October 8, 1960 to Betty and Nathan Schmitzer.
Greg, known to many as Igor or Critter, was a funny and outgoing individual who had a knack for making people laugh. He was a true protector and a loyal friend, always there for anyone in need. Greg was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and his enthusiasm for the team was unmatched.
Greg is survived by his children, Amanda Savage and Kyle (Anna) Schmitzer, as well as his grandchildren, Jaiden Knapp and Wesley and Madelyn Schmitzer. He is also survived by his sister, Pam Schmitzer, his mother, Betty Schmitzer, his nephew and niece, Ryan Miller and Lacey (Curtis) Hanson, and the mother of his children, Kim Schmitzer.
Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Valerie Van Stappen, his father, Nathan Schmitzer, and an infant grandson, Jack Schmitzer.
Greg attended Appleton West High School and later pursued a career with Wausau Papers and Precision Papers. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual who took pride in his work.
In his free time, Greg enjoyed playing pool, golf, darts, and boating on Lake Winnebago. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to unwind and have fun.
A celebration of life will be held at the Camelot Bar and Grill (1700 E Wisconsin Ave. Appleton) on January 20th from 1 pm - 4 pm to honor Greg's memory. The Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, WI, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Greg Schmitzer will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His infectious laughter and kind heart will forever be remembered. May he rest in peace.
