Age 82, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 29, 2003. Grace was born in Little Chute on August 7, 1920, daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Van Handel) Hinkens. On September 28, 1939, Grace married Elmer Romenesko who preceded her in death in 1972. On April 26, 1976, she married John Van Beek who preceded her in death in 1993. Many will remember Grace for the years she spent employed at Geenen’s Supermarket in Freedom. She was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and is Christian Mothers Society, as well as the Golden Agers. She especially enjoyed crafts and travel.
Grace is survived by four children: Donald (Pam) Romenesko of Kimberly; Thomas (Sue) Romenesko of Iron River, Michigan; Sharon (Richard) Stuck of Freedom; Keith (Debbie) Romenesko of Antigo; two step-sons: Roger (Doris) Van Beek of Greenleaf and Norman (Marge) Van Beek of Freedom; four half-brothers: Romy (Mary) Hinkens of Fremont; Darrell (Barb) Hinkens of Appleton; Richard (Beata) Hahn of Little Chute; Don (Bonnie) Thews of Appleton; a half-sister: Virginia Hinkens of Appleton; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Verona Peters and Mary Sievers; and her special friends Dick (Donna) Kilsdonk of Appleton and Tom (Lois) Shandony of Neenah. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, brothers Raymond Hinkens and DuWayne Hinkens, sisters Bernice Zwiers and Cynthia LeClere, and by two step-grandsons Roland Van Beek and Mark Van Beek.
The funeral liturgy for Grace will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Freedom. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 – 8 PM and again Wednesday from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM at which time the procession will leave for the church. There will be no visitation at the church on Wednesday. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
Grace will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She touched the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Grace was a generous woman who always placed the needs of others before those of her own. She will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind.
