At age 74, passed away in Appleton on Saturday, November 13, 2004. He was born in Appleton on April 20, 1930, son of the late Edward and Agnes (Diener) Merkel. He was proud to serve in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was employed in the communications industry for many years as a salesman. He is survived by his daughters: Jodi Ray and her children: Cassandra, Samantha, Amanda and Sabrina, all of Winston, Ga; Laurie Carnot and her children Adam and Ryley all of Kaukauna, and Lynn (Bernie) Schuh and her children, Sarah and Brandon, all of Greenville; and a sister, Elda (Charles) Muench. He is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine (Julius) Meyer. A memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2004, at John Fischer Manor Community Room, 330 E. First St., Appleton. Friends will be received at the community room from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
