Glen J. Gostas, 59, of Fox Crossing, passed away peacefully the morning of March 1st, 2021, held in the arms of his fiancée Michelle Ecklor. Glen’s strong will to live made for a determined fight against cancer and though his courageous battle is now over, his memory lives on in those who loved him.
Glen was born August 23rd, 1961, the son of Charles and Janice Gostas (Gehring). He was raised in Menasha along with his brothers Gary and Chuck. He attended Menasha High School and then UW-Oshkosh. His love for music began as a child when he studied piano and percussion, and he was known for his prodigious talents on many instruments.
Glen was also a jack of all trades—he could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends in need. He even went on to create his own business, Glen’s Handyman Service, which provided expert-yet-approachable maintenance and caretaking services around town.
If you knew and loved Glen, you knew and loved The Laugh. Glen’s laughter was one of a kind: boisterous, infectious, and a sign that good times were about to be had. His spirited presence filled a room, and he spread joy and fun wherever he went. His family will always remember Uncle Glen arriving at Crooked Lake and instantly running down to the dock to jump, fully dressed, into the water.
He loved to teach and share stories, and always encouraged wonder and curiosity in others. No thought or dream was too outsized to pursue. He was particularly passionate about the environment and animals—much of what he did was in service of nature and his gentle demeanor with people’s pets earned him the title of “dog whisperer.” He also was a great conversationalist about music, books, food, beer and wine, and travel. He had a passion for cooking and healthy eating, and he shared his extensive knowledge of beer and beer-making while teaching classes at Home Brew Market. Most of all, he was incredibly kind and caring, and he will be dearly missed.
Glen is survived by his fiancée Michelle Ecklor, his mother Janice Gostas, and his brothers Gary (Debbie) Gostas and Charles Gostas; his nieces and nephews Haily (Matthew) Carlson, Courtney Gostas, Torey (DJ) Lehner, Paul Gostas, Jackson Gostas, and Davis Gostas; his aunts Fran (Randy) Bedore and Kathy Gehring; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Gostas, his nephew Levi Lehner, his grandparents Paul and Amanda Gostas and John and Rose Gehring, and his aunts and uncles John and Katie Gehring, Mark Gehring, and Jim and Georgianna Mix.
