Age 97, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at her home, Country Terrace, in Appleton.

She was born March 9, 1909, in Medford, Wis., the daughter of the late Jacob and Barbara (Macovia) Kurth. Gertrude was united in marriage to Stephen Farrell on August 21, 1934, in Neenah. He preceded her in death January 13, 1999. Gertrude was a homemaker, and longtime active parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church. She volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul in Appleton.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy (Jim) Houlihan, Appleton, and Marge (Chris) Granberg, Oshkosh; her son, Bob (Betty) Farrell, Mountain, Wis.; there are 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Viola Farrell, DePere, and a brother-in-law, John (Germaine) Farrell, Neenah; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Therese Farrell, four sisters, and nine brothers.

The funeral mass for Gertrude will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, with Father Thomas Farrell, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the liturgy.
