Gertrude M. “Toots” Martin, age 102, of Kimberly, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Country Villa Assisted Living in Freedom.
Gert was born on December 21, 1917 in Kimberly to the late Christopher and Hendrika (De Leeuw) Van Daalwyk. She was united in marriage to Philip Martin on February 6, 1945 in Appleton. They would raise 4 children and spend 30 years together, until Philip’s death in 1975. Gert was a proud member of the Kimberly American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Holy Name Catholic Church Choir.
In her spare time, Toots bowled, pitched horseshoes, played sheepshead, knitted, crocheted, sewed and camped. She was generally very handy with everything. Most of all, Toots loved spending time with her family.
Gert is survived by her children, Donna (Terry) Hella, Wayne (Sandy) Martin, David Martin and Sue (Tom) Harke; grandchildren, Tonya (Michael) Gary, Corey (Sarah) Martin, Joe Martin, Jason (special friend, Stephanie Bell) Harke, Holly (Andy) Van Zeeland and Tommy (Nicole) Harke; great-grandchildren, Ethan Gary, Aeryn Gary, Teya Martin, Landon Martin, Bentley Martin, Ava Schwartzbauer, Dominic Van Zeeland, Ryker Van Zeeland, Wade Harke, Olive Harke and Jett Harke; grandson-in-law, Nick (Samantha) Schwartzbauer; step-great-grandchildren, Gretta and Rosa; and many other dear family and friends.
Gert was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Heather (Harke) Schwartzbauer; her siblings, Minnie, Chris, Mart, Marie, Ann, Jacob, Jake, Barney, Harriet, Ann and Joe.
Visitation for Gert will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Wichmann Jansen-Fargo Funeral Home, 204 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, WI 54136, with a Vigil following at 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for her at 11 AM on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish- Kimberly Site, 620 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly by Rev. Carl Schmidt. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10 AM to the time of mass. Interment will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery, Kimberly.
Gert’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Country Villa, Unity Hospice, Dr. Travis Kroner and his nurse, Karol. Words cannot express their gratitude for the exceptional, loving care you all showed their mother.
