Gertrude A. Zawacki, age 98, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center in Menasha. On March 17, 1916, Gertrude Agnes was born to the late John and Mary (Schultz) Skornia in Owensville, Missouri. In the rural farming community of Mill Creek, Wisconsin, Gertie married Chester Zawacki in 1943.
Gertie had retired from Jersild Knitting Mills to babysit her grandbabies full time. She loved spending as much time as she could with them. Gertie was very talented as a seamstress. She could fix or make anything.
Gertie will be missed by her loving children: Ronald Zawacki and Shirlee (Robert) Weber; her grandchildren: Jennifer (Bill) Honkanen, Ronald (Debbie) Zawacki II, Reed Wismer, and Emily (Charles Pegg) Wismer; and great-grandchildren: Toby Honkanen and Ronald Zawacki III; step great-grandchildren: Philip Mueller and Austin Nielsen; and her sister Helen Pawlowski and countless nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Frank, Anton, and Paul; and her sisters: Sr. Mary Witolda and Ann.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 516 De Pere Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Paider officiating. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:15 am until the hour of the Mass at the church.
