LYONS, GERTRUDE C. “GERT”
Gertrude Lyons, of Appleton, age 92 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2007 with her family by her side. She was born February 9, 1915 in Lewiston, Minnesota, the daughter of the late John and Anna C. (Batzloff) Roth. Gertrude married Everett Lyons on May 19, 1962 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1980. Gert was a longtime member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and the Appleton Homemakers. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for the needy. Gertrude loved taking care of her grandsons, Matthew and Aaron. During her time at Franciscan Care she enjoyed puzzles and visiting with her friends.
Gert is survived by her sons: Roger T. (Donna) Gruska, Oshkosh and John (Judy) Lyons, Appleton; daughter: Rose Marie (the late Ed) Danke, Readfield; grandchildren: Jody Gruska, Kaukauna; Michelle (Mark) Mezaros-Olson, Franklin; Rick (Marge) Gruska, Oshkosh; Roger A. and Randy Gruska, Oneida; Matthew and Aaron Lyons, Appleton; Chris (Dale) Keller, Barb (Dave) Anderson and Gary Feistel, Appleton; Edwin and Clyde Danke, Readfield; Steve (Dee) Danke, Waupaca and Tim Danke, Colorado; special friends: Willard Grablander, Cora (the late Clarence) Boyle and Ada Barney; special canine friends: Riley, Annie and Willy. She is further survived by several great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Gertrude was preceded in death by her first husband Tom Gruska, husband Everett Lyons, daughters: JoAnn (nee Gruska)(Mike) Mezaros and Viola (Norman) Feistel; and granddaughter Missy Danke.
The funeral service for Gertrude will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 2, 2007 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison, Appleton with Rev. John C. Baumann officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday at church from 9:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial to Franciscan Care Center and the church are appreciated.
