Germaine A. Heckert

July 6, 1917 — May 27, 2007

Germaine Heckert, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, May 27, 2007 at the Rennes Health Center. Germaine was born in Appleton on July 6, 1917, daughter of the late William and Lillian (Cain) Krautkraemer. She was a 1935 graduate of Appleton High School, and also graduated from Lawrence College in 1939. From that time until 1953, Germaine worked in the payroll offices at Kimberly-Clark Corporation. She married Emil Heckert in 1952, and then retired in 1953 to begin raising a family. Being a perpetual “organizer”, Germaine was responsible for planning and hosting class reunions for both her high school and college classes. Many will remember Germaine as an avid bowler. She bowled in leagues for many years, and also served as league secretary for as many as twenty-five different teams. She also enjoyed time spent at the family cottage in Three Lakes. While Germaine spent some free time golfing and reading, clearly her favorite pastime was to be with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons: Steve (Kathy) Heckert of Freedom and Bill (Paula) Heckert of Little Chute and their children Alan and Amanda; a brother-in-law: Herman (Betty) Heckert of Florida. Germaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil in 1989, a sister Angeline (Louis) Gay, and a brother Leland (Sophie) Krautkraemer.

The funeral liturgy for Germaine will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1925 N. McDonald Street in Appleton with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the services.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the many caring people that provided for Germaine. They include the staff at Rennes Care Center, everyone at Heartland Hospice, the many family members, friends, and neighbors for their support and assistance, and to Fr. Falk for his prayers, kind thoughts, and guidance.
