Gerry Eckes, age 86, passed away peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice on July 22, 2007. Gerry was born in Appleton on October 19, 1920, daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Brinkman) Ecker. She attended Appleton High School and on September 14, 1940 married Robert “Bob” Eckes. Gerry and Bob were a very special couple and enjoyed 52 wonderful years until Bob preceded her in death in 1993. In her earlier years, Gerry enjoyed her volunteer time at St. Joseph’s Food Pantry in Appleton. Anyone who knew Gerry would say that the most important part of her life was her family and her home. She raised her family with patience, laughter, and lots of love. She was proud to bake her famous sugar cookies, and her special home-made cure-all, chicken soup. She will be revered as a wonderful and loving friend to all.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter: Sharon (Tim) Endter, Seymour; her son: Rodney (Donna) Eckes, Wild Rose; her daughter-in-law: Sandy Eckes, Neenah; her six grandchildren: Sarah (John) Dubey, Ryan (Cindy) Eckes, Robert (Rhonda) Endter, William (Sarah) Endter, Suzie (Chris) Shaw, and Brad (Allison) Eckes; eleven great-grandchildren; as well as a few special nephews, other relatives, and many great friends. In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Gary in 2002, and her brother Robert (Ethel) Ecker.

Funeral services for Gerry will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church (912 North Oneida Street) with Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Friends may call in the Gammelin Chapel, located within Zion Lutheran Church, on Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the many loving people who loved Gerry throughout the years. They include her very special neighbors and dear friends: Mary Kay, Mitzi, and Rita; the heart-felt care of the staffs of Arc Angels Home Care; and Cherry Meadows. Mom cared and loved you all so much, thank you for all you have done.
