Geraldine “Gerry” Barlament, age 82 of Appleton, died February 3, 2015, at Heartwood Homes. She was born August 18, 1932 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Lester and Evelyn (Lofholm) Asmus, who died when Gerry was a young girl. Her step-mother was Viola Asmus. She was a high school graduate of Appleton High School in 1950, where she met the love of her life, Robert Barlament. Gerry graduated from Evanston Hospital School of Nursing, which was affiliated with Northwestern University, and was united in marriage to Robert Barlament on May 16, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois.
Gerry worked part time for many years as a registered nurse in hospitals, doctors' offices and the last twenty-three years as an occupational health nurse for Kimberly Clark Corporation. Gerry was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with her many friends. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their retirement years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years: Bob Barlament of Appleton; three sons: Michael (Rebecca) Barlament of Atlanta, Georgia; William Barlament of Wautoma; and James Barlament of Appleton; a daughter: Nancy Scheffler of Tulsa, Oklahoma. There are nine grandchildren: Brandon Barlament, Whitney (Matthew) Pittman, Courtney Barlament, Benjamin Barlament, Stephanie Scheffler, Mathew Scheffler, Janelle Barlament, Jenilee (Michael) Ehlenbeck, and Leland (Ann) Barlament; four great grandchildren: Ezra and Ezekiel Barlament, Miguel and Liliana Barlament. Gerry was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn; her father and step-mother; a son in law: Steve Scheffler; and infant grandson: Graham Barlament.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton, with Rev. Jane B. Anderson of First Congregational Church in Appleton officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the memorial service.
