Jerry, age 88, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at his home. He was born on July 2, 1916, in Freedom, to the late Herman and Anna (Murphy) Hooyman. He married Leora Dreier on April 26, 1941, in Appleton. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army for 36 months in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and was later a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was employed at Appleton Paper for 33 years as a machine operator, retiring on July 1, 1978. Jerry was also a well-loved school bus driver following his retirement. Both Leora and Jerry enjoyed dancing; they were known as the “King and Queen of Clark Street” at dances. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Leora; their children, Judi (Denny) Noie, Kimberly; Jerry Hooyman, Racine; Diane Hopfensperger (Don Hagany), Appleton; Mary Ellen Bolland, Madison; Mike (Resa) Hooyman, Menasha; and Susan (Phil) Eldredge, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Scott (Dawn) Timmers, Rebecca (Tim) Rink, Steve Timmers, Ric (Stevie) Timmers, Lisa (David) Merkel, Lori (George) Chapes, Bret (Amy) Hooyman, Chad (Amy) Hopfensperger, Julie Hopfensperger, Whit Bolland, Anna Bolland, Polly Bolland, Brooke Hooyman, Matt Hooyman, Charlie Eldredge, Jenny Eldredge, and Amy Eldredge; seven great grandchildren; his brothers and sister, Edward (Betty) Hooyman, Alice Much, Ervin (Judy) Hooyman and George (Donna) Hooyman; and his sister-in-law, Marian Hooyman. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brad Hopfensperger, two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2004, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Mark H. Abram officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park.
