Age 72, passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice, after a short battle with cancer, in Appleton on Wednesday, April 14, 2004. He was born in Appleton on May 12, 1931, son of the late Alvin and Inez (Erdmann) Greunke. Jerry graduated from Appleton High School in 1949. He married Dolores “Dee” Diedrich at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton, on October 2, 1954. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jerry recently retired from New London Community Hospital and also worked part time for Colony Oaks Care Center. He will be remembered for being an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Dolores of 49 years; three children: Jeff (Barb) Greunke of Kimberly, Pam (Gary) Ganzen of Appleton, and Randy Greunke Appleton; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Jesse) Armitage, Sarah (Bill) Schwab, Elaina Greunke, Matthew (special friend Erin) Ganzen, and Laurie Greunke: great grandson, Justin Schwab; sister, Nadine (LaVahn) Jensen of Menasha; and brothers: Tom (Peg) Greunke of Kimberly and Jim (Mary) Greunke of Pickerel. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Laurie Beth; and aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2004 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton, with Rev. Chris Quello and Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A military honor service will be conducted by the William Verhagen American Legion Post of Kimberly.

The family would like to express a very special thank you to Cherry Meadows for their outstanding care of Jerry.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Jerry’s name is being established.
