Gerald J. Alferi

Gerald “Jerry” Alferi, age 87 passed away on December 5, 2024 at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center in Menasha, where he was in their care since December of last year. Jerry was born on August 31, 1937 in Appleton, WI, son of the late Joseph and Lucille (Smith) Alferi. Jerry attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Appleton, 9th grade at St. Joseph’s, and one year at Appleton West before attending Mt. Calvary and then St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, WI. He was ordained as a Catholic priest and proud of his years in the ministry for the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay.

Jerry always put other people before himself, helping everyone whenever they needed an extra hand. This was especially seen in his simple lifestyle and unmatchable kindness towards the poor. He spent time with ex-incarcerated folks in Circles of Support, was a member of the ESTHER justice organization, and enjoyed participating in book discussion groups. Jerry loved every cat and took in any strays he saw. He was a big fan of the Packers and the Yankees. More than anything, though, Jerry treasured his family and the many close friends he made over the years. 

Jerry is survived by his sisters, Judy Kissel and Eileen Rutten; his sister-in-law, Berdene Alferi; along with his nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends. 

Jerry is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Alferi and Conrad “Rod” Alferi; his brother-in-law, Jerrel Kissel; and his sister-in-law, Amelia Trindal. 

A celebration of life will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Menasha Senior Center, 116 Main St, Menasha, WI 54952. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of the many organizations Jerry helped contribute to in his honor.

Jerry’s family would like to especially thank Gary and Helen who were God-sent during Jerry’s illness, as well as the doctors, nurses, and other supporting staff involved in his care at Oakridge Gardens and through Compassus Hospice.
