George Schaefer, Jr. passed away February 12, 2017 at age 93. He was born on February 7, 1924 in Mannheim Germany to the late George and Freida (Weber) Schaefer. He married Jeanette (Werner) Schaefer on November 12, 1945. George started his career as a cost accountant at Appleton Machine Company, was the owner and operator of Freida's Tavern and retired as a building engineer with the Appleton Area School District. He enjoyed the outdoors, boating, hunting, fishing, traveling to Mississippi to golf and spending time at his cottage in Door County.
He is survived by his spouse Jeanette of 71 years, his daughters, Connie (Joseph) Nock, Nancy (Edward) Lieg and Sharon (Dale) Lyons. He is further survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Kris (Diane) Lyons, Mason and Bryce, Erin (Matthew) Woodard, Elinor and Miriam, Mark (Emily) Lyons, Alexandria, Katie (Oliver) Pitts, Maxwell and Benjamin (Jamie) Nock, Jakob and Lillian.
Funeral services for George will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. There will be a time of visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
