George C. Bahrke
Appleton
Formerly of Kewaunee, passed away from cancer on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at The Hospice at Cherry Meadows. He was born on April 7, 1930 in Neenah the son of the late George and Clarice (Helgeson) Bahrke. He served his country in the Marshall Islands during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. On July 30, 1955 he married Ramona Flater. Mr. Bahrke was a physical education teacher, a drivers’ education teacher, and a coach in the Kewaunee Public School System for over 40 years. Up until the time of his death Mr. Bahrke was athletic commissioner for the Packerland Conference of the WIAA.
He is survived by his wife Ramona of Appleton, a son David Bahrke of Milwaukee, a daughter Sandra (Paul) Swinko of Washington DC; and a granddaughter Claire. George is also survived by two brothers and three sisters Gladys Borchardt of Appleton, Harold (Carol) Bahrke of Los Angeles, California, Leone (Robert) Vorpahl of Eau Claire, Milton (Marcy) Bahrke of Allenville, Wisconsin, and June (Raymond) Breaker of Larsen, Wisconsin; a very special aunt Ruth Rewey of Appleton, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at 1:00 PM at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 129 South Mason Street in Appleton with The Rev’d David F. Pagel and The Rev’d Jeffrey A. Verbeke officiating. Interment will take place at Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Winchester, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton on Friday from 5-8 PM and on Saturday at the Church from 12:00 PM until the time of the services. A memorial fund is being established for St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Chorus Director’s Chair of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Endowment Foundation Trust.
