George Bernard Paltzer, age 70, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008, of a brain aneurysm while vacationing in Galveston, Texas. George was born on November 17, 1937, son of the late George and Lorraine Paltzer. He was a 1956 graduate of Appleton High School and served in the United States Navy from 1957 until 1959. George married Donna Deimer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville on September 29, 1962. For many years, George co-owned and operated Western Farm & Garden, Inc. George was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a long-time member of the Fox Valleyaires Barbershop Chorus, volunteered at St. Joseph Food Pantry, and enjoyed skiing, motorcycling, hunting, and golfing. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville where he served as chairman of the church building committee. He was also a member of the Fox Valley Catholic Bible Study.
George is survived by his loving wife: Donna Paltzer of Appleton; a daughter: Jean (Jay) Fleming of Edina, Minnesota; two sons: Mark (Theresa) Paltzer of Oregon, Wisconsin and Michael (Kathy) Paltzer of Hortonville; his five grandchildren: Wyatt and Mitchell Paltzer, Joel Paltzer, Jacob and Isabel Fleming; and three step-grandchildren: Cassandra, Patrick, and Kyle Tate. He is also survived by his brothers: James (Helen) Paltzer of Appleton and Alfred (Sandy) Paltzer of Mackville; his sister: Marilyn (Charles) Hegner of Kaukauna; and a brother-in-law: James (Judy) Deimer of Greenville. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Walter, and his mother and father-in-law, George and Hilda Deimer.
The funeral liturgy for George will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 15, 2008, at ST. EDWARD CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mackville, with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the St. Joseph Food Pantry, LEAVEN, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. An online guestbook for George is available at www.wichmannfargo.com.
