Gen Kurth, age 88, passed away at Grand Horizons in Appleton on Monday morning, January 30, 2012. She was born in Manitowoc on January 15, 1924, daughter of the late John and Agnes (Somann) Matczynski. She attended high school in Manitowoc, and on August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to John Kurth. They enjoyed 63 years together before his death on March 21, 2010. Gen enjoyed decorative painting, sewing, bridge, and vacationing in Door County and Florida. She and John were the owners of Shipmates nautical gift shop in Sister Bay, Wisconsin. For many years, Gen was also an active and faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton.
Gen is survived by four daughters: Susan (Ron) Matta of Mundelein, Illinois; Mary Jo Hannemann of Appleton; Carol (Steve) Otten of Milwaukee; and Patricia Kurth of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren: Kathy (Glen), Mike (Nichola), Amy, Andrew, Leigh, Jenny (Paul), and Jack; three great-grandchildren: Kate, Sarah, and Evan; and a sister: Florence Ochiltree of Manitowoc. Gen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton, with Fr. Quinn Mann officiating. Inurnment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the mass.

A memorial fund in Gen's name for Theda Care At Home Hospice is being established.
