Geneva M. Geweke

Our Mom and Nana, Geneva “Neva” Mae Geweke, was granted her lifetime goal on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, when she was welcomed by her Savior into her heavenly home. Neva was born on July 16, 1941 near Callaway, MN to Lyle and Elvera DeGroat. She graduated from Detroit Lakes, MN High School, and attended Concordia University in Saint Paul, MN where she met the love of her life, Ray Geweke, marrying him on July 14, 1962. They had a legacy of love in their children:  Becky & Jeff Esker, Appleton, WI; Jon & Eunice Geweke, Maryville, TN; and Sarah & Tim Aalsma, Waupun, WI.

Neva’s love of God’s children guided her decision to become a teacher of preschoolers and kindergartners. Yet, her favorite titles were “Mom” or “Nana” as she excelled in her God-given calling by loving and caring well for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Neva proudly attended many of her grandchildren’s sporting, musical and school events. Loving people well was her top priority. Many family members, relatives, Bible study friends, auto club members, and neighbors have provided her faithful friendship, care, and prayer support.

Neva is survived by ten grandchildren:  Leah and Adam Hartenberger, Stephanie and James Siegle, Rachel Esker and fiancé Elijah Rice, and Aaron Esker; Aaryn and JP Geweke-Jennings, Jonah and Brooke Geweke; and Abigail, Naomi, Lydia and Tymon Aalsma. Her seven great grandchildren, Kevin, Natalie, Daniel and Abrielle Hartenberger; Lucas and Elliott Geweke; and Rune Geweke gave Neva much joy.

Surviving Neva are six of her fifteen siblings: Doris and Tom Straw, Angie and Chet Boen, Carrie and Don Nicholson, Edith and Byron Huseby, Darlene and Larry Hynding, and Dan DeGroat, and many nieces and nephews.

A glorious, heavenly reunion with her predeceased siblings include: Floretta Swetland, Bud DeGroat, Woody DeGroat, Gloria Badar, Junior DeGroat, Linda Hornseth, Tim DeGroat and Terry DeGroat.

We will forever be grateful to God for blessing us with His precious gift, Neva.

A service celebrating her time with us will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Valley Baptist Church, located at 3600 Chippewa Street in Appleton, with Rev. Larry Creamer officiating. Burial will take place in High Cliff Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and again on Friday morning from 8:30 AM until the time of the service.
