Age 51, died unexpectedly following an automobile accident on Monday, March 11, 2002. Gary was born in Green Bay on August 17, 1950, son of Joseph Van De Loo of Kaukauna and the late Adrianna (nee Bosmans) Van De Loo. Gary married Donna Marx on August 20, 1971 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom; she survives. Gary was an avid bowler, and was currently bowling in three different leagues. He was a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna where he served as an usher. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, and always looked forward to Sunday afternoons when he could watch Green Bay Packers football. Gary had a love for God’s creatures, and enjoyed his dogs Snooper and Cokie, caring for his cattle, and going on cattle buying excursions with his dad. He was currently the president and owner of Van De Loo Livestock Sales, Inc.
Gary is survived by his wife of thirty years: Donna Van De Loo of Kaukauna; three sons: Gary “Bud” (Nichole) Van De Loo and Richard Van De Loo, both of Kaukauna, and Jim Van De Loo of Milwaukee; his father: Joseph Van De Loo of Kaukauna; a brother: Daniel (Geraldine) Van De Loo of Shawano; a sister-in-law: Diane (Rick) Wiegand of Hortonville; two brothers-in-law: Conrad (Mary Jo) Marx of Atlanta and Richard (Judy) Marx of Kaukauna; and by Donna’s parents Clarence and Dorothy Marx of Kaukauna. Gary is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Adrianna Van De Loo in 1997, a son Joe Van De Loo in 2000, a sister Bonnie Jean Van De Loo in 1968, and a sister-in-law Doris Jadin in 1992.
The funeral liturgy for Gary will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 15, 2002 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 – 8 PM and again Friday at the church from 9 AM until the time of the liturgy. Rather than sending flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to a memorial fund that has been established in Gary’s name.
Gary was a committed husband and father, who had tremendous love for his wife and sons. They, along with all who knew Gary, will miss him more than words can say.
Death Is Nothing At All
I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you, whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death by a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.
