Avid fisherman and hunter, Garys love of life didn't end with his death. At age 64, after a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Gary was a member of the first class to graduate from Oshkosh North High School. His love of fast cars took him to Fox Valley Technical Institute for further education in the automotive field. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country in Korea and Germany.
Even though failing health took him away from us, his loving heart will be remembered by those who truly knew him. The simplest pleasures in life brought Gary the most joy. Being able to deer hunt with his dad in the cabin Gary built, to spending countless hours fishing Lake Winnebago in pursuit of walleye and perch, taking a ride in the country, or just relaxing around a campfire with his wife Barb and his beloved Shetland Sheepdogs; Amber, Lady, Heidi and Cody.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Jacqueline Elmer. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 33 years, a son, Jeremy, a daughter, Nichole (Salem) Salem. Grandchildren; Rook, Chantelle, Alexis, Layal, Shihab, Raiyan, and Kenaan; two sisters; Cindy (James) Sharpe and their children, James Jr. and Alyssa, and Michelle (Brad) Skupas, two brother in laws, Robert (Linda) Gunther and William (Tracy) Gunther along with numerous cousins and wonderful friends.
