Garland S. “Ike” Eickhoff, age 87, passed away peacefully Friday, June 3, 2005, at Colony Oaks Care Center. He was born July 12, 1917, in the town of Center, the son of Alvin and Hulda (Hendricks) Eickhoff. He married Ernestine Gitter on April 13, 1939, in Appleton. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1968. Prior to his retirement, Ike was the owner of Valley Paint Contractors of Appleton.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Robert) Gunderson, of Hortonville; his five grandchildren, Julie (Al) Foskett, of Black Creek, Todd (Dawn) Gunderson, of Hortonville, Randy Gunderson and Jamie (Mike) Dahms, all of Appleton, and Teri (Dave) Schneider, of DePere; Ike’s great grandchildren, Erik, Mikayla, and Maggie Foskett, Jordan and Reid Gunderson, Hailey Gunderson, Samuel and Noah Dahms, and Ethan, Adam, and Abigail Schneider; two sisters-in-law, Millie Eickhoff and Adeline Eickhoff; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Hulda, his wife, Ernestine, and two brothers, Harlie and Merl.
Funeral services for Ike will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 South Oneida Street, Menasha. Deacon Pete Reinl will officiate. Interment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and again from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. A memorial fund in Ike’s name is being established.
Dad and Grandpa, we will always remember you for your eternal optimism. It will forever remind us to “keep our cups half full, not half empty”.
A special thank you to the entire staff at Colony Oaks Care Center for the loving care and concern given to Ike during his stay.
