Fred J. Van Dyke

April 18, 1915 — October 23, 2005

Fred J. Van Dyke, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 23, 2005. Fred was born in Little Chute on April 18, 1915, the son of the late Henry and Anna (Van Roy) Van Dyke. In 1941, he entered the United States Army and faithfully served until August of 1945, and was a member of the Leo Van Roy Post #265 of the American Legion in Darboy. For many years, Fred farmed in the Darboy area and also worked at and retired from the Kimberly Clark Mill in Kimberly. On May 25, 1944, Fred married the former Florence Krabbe; she preceded him in death in 1991. In September of 1992, he married Elizabeth Seegers Leitzke; she preceded him in death in September of 2000. Fred enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing cards, bingo, and riding his bicycle. He was a member of the Combined Locks Golden Agers and Appleton Moose Lodge #406.

Fred is survived by his son: Dennis (Darlene) Van Dyke of Darboy; two granddaughters: Michelle (Darren) Mueller and their children Emma and Jacob; and Carrie (Christopher) Timm and their daughter Alexis. Fred is also survived by the children of his second wife, Elizabeth: Sharon (Chuck) Heuer of Neenah; Julie (Rick) Hietpas of Appleton; Lonnie (Linda) Leitzke of Appleton; Dale Leitzke and his special friend Diane of Kaukauna; Dan Leitzke of Antigo; Terry (Laurie) Leitzke of Greenville; Kevin (Heidi) Leitzke of Shiocton; nineteen step-grandchildren; twenty-one step-great-grandchildren. Fred is also survived by sisters-in-law Myra Van Dyke of Appleton, Grace Krabbe of Freedom, Lillian (Joseph) Hermsen of Appleton, Lucina Kuepper of Kimberly, and Rose Seegers of Freedom; brothers-in-law: John Seegers of Kimberly, Herman (Audrey) Seegers of New London, Louis (Catherine) Seegers of Grand Chute, and Ray Haase of Seymour. Fred is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wives, Florence and Elizabeth; four brothers, five sisters, five brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in-law.

The funeral liturgy for Fred will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH – 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
