Fred J. Jungers, Appleton, 92, died Wednesday evening, May 26, 2004. He was born November 2, 1911, to the late Nicholas J. and Matilda (Krier) Jungers, in Dacada, Wisconsin and graduated from Random Lake High School in 1930. Fred graduated from the University of Minnesota Embalming School, in 1932 and was employed at his father’s funeral home in Dacada for 4 years. He married Loretta Freese on April 13, 1936; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2002, after 66 years of being happily married. Fred was in business for himself and owner of his own funeral home in Wrightstown, Wisconsin, from 1937-1943. Following this he was employed by Wichmann Funeral Home as an embalmer and funeral director for 32 years. Following his retirement in 1974, Fred, worked for several years at other funeral homes in the Fox Valley. Fred was an avid sports fan and very active in softball, bowling, golf and square dancing. He had been the president of the Wrightstown Lions Club, president of the Appleton Optimist Club, a Dale Carnegie graduate and was a member of the Toastmasters.
Survivors include four children, Bob and JoAnne Jungers, Fort Worth, Texas; John and Phyllis Jungers, Appleton; Fred and Joan Jungers, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; Mary Damrow, LaQuinta, California; 12 grandchildren, Mike (Debbie) Jungers, Karin (Jason) Silinas, Aileen (Lionel) Menchaca, Kari (Tim) Plass, Paul (Elizabeth) Jungers, Kate (Carl) Jackson, Mark (Jeanette) Jungers, Lisa Jungers, Ann Jungers, Keith (April) Damrow, Rob (Lisa) Damrow, Vikki (Gary) Hall; and 15 great grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Genevieve Voigt, Manitowoc; Delores Sauer, Port Washington; and a sister-in-law, Edna Jungers, Stillwater, OK.
The Parish Prayer Service for Fred will be held at 5:00 pm, Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the funeral home with Deacon Maury Reed officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 pm Sunday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for Fox Valley Assisted Living.
