“Tom”
Of Appleton, age 93, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Francis was born on June 1, 1914 in New London, son of the late Harland and Alma (Wolfe) Meredith. Francis graduated from Hortonville High School, class of 1931. He won many medals in track in high school and played baseball with the Outagamie League in Dale, WI. He also played softball in the Shiocton area. Francis enjoyed ice fishing and playing golf in his later years, playing golf until he was 88 years old. He was very proud of the fact that he had a hole in one. During retirement he enjoyed woodworking and built beautiful furniture for family and friends. Francis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Appleton, where he enjoyed helping out wherever he could. On August 3, 1939, he married Ethel Riehl. They were married for 62 years before her death in August of 2001. Francis was a brick layer working for various construction companies in the area. He retired in 1982, at the age of 67. Francis is survived by his son Thomas “Toby” and his wife Gail, of Cecil. He is also survived by two grandsons, Tim and his wife Lisa, and their children, Jordan, and Chase; Steve and his wife Deborah, and their children, Kyler, Kasey, Kally, and Karly. Francis is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Arthur Krause, and Merlin Kuse, and his sister-in-law, Grace Krabbe, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel, his sisters, Mildred (Francis) Drake, Selma (Ray) Stark, and his brother, Lloyd (Lila) Meredith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, 325 E. Franklin St., Appleton. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
The family would like to thank a special angel Gerry Kirvan and his caregivers at Brewster Village.
