FRANCIS S. CONRAD

Age 82, died on Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home. Francis was born on August 16, 1918, in Pennsylvania, to the late Paul and Ida (Shrader) Conrad. He served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force. Francis graduated from Lawrence University in 1949 and later earned a Masters Degree in English and Art from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He taught in the Appleton School District and Valley Technical College for over 39 years, retiring in 1988. Francis loved art, writing, and animals. He was also a Mason of long standing. On December 25, 1943, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Merget at the First Congregational Church of Christ, Plymouth, Wisconsin, with Rev. Samuel Bullough officiating.
Barbara and Francis’ marriage was blessed with three children: Paul, who was born in 1952 and lived but three days; Kathy was adopted in 1954 and died in 1980; her son, Karl Jende of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, survives as a grandson; and Timothy (Diane) Conrad, who resides in Appleton with their sons, Matthew and Paul.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2001 at MEMORIAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 803 East College Avenue, with Rev. Norman Krutzik officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in his name to benefit the American Cancer Society. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Francis’ special friend, Bonnie Dercks.
