Age 83, passed away in Kaukauna on Thursday, July 29, 2004. He was born in Farebault, MN on September 16, 1920, son of the late John and Martina (Van der A) DeGroot. On January 3, 1942, he married Eunice Modl in Kaukauna. Mick proudly served in the United States Army as a medic during World War II. He was employed at Giddings and Lewis in Kaukauna, Krautkramer Garage in Wrightstown, McCarthy Construction in Kaukauna, Molach Mill in Appleton, and retired in 1996 from Carl Bowers and Sons Construction in Kaukauna. Throughout the years, Mick had many hobbies including: playing cards, bowling, hunting, dancing, tinkering in the garage, and helping neighbors. He was one of the first stock car racers in the area. Mick could never go anywhere without running into people he knew.

Mick is survived by his wife, Eunice; sons: Eugene (Jean) DeGroot of Beaver Dam and David (Lauren) DeGroot of Kaukauna; grandchildren: Bob DeGroot, Jeff (Angie) DeGroot, Jim (Judy) DeGroot, Ken (Michelle) DeGroot, Mike DeGroot, Tom DeGroot, Val Edge, Shari (Ben) Ross, Mary DeGroot, Sue (Howie) Feldkamp, Bill (special friend, Wendy) DeGroot: 15 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; brothers: William (Iva) DeGroot of Washington, Art DeGroot of Minnesota, Leo DeGroot of Texas, Fritz (Pam) DeGroot of Missouri, Myron (Ole) DeGroot of Minnesota, and Tony (Marilyn) DeGroot of Minnesota; sisters: Agnes (Raymond) Webb of Minnesota, Rosella (Donald) Wallace of Minnesota, and Elizabeth (Bernard) Sneva of Minnesota.

Mick is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Johnny DeGroot, and a sister Martha Gillias.

The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Friends will be received at the Fargo Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
