Age 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Franciscan Care Center following a long illness. She was born on February 19, 1911 in Appleton, the daughter of the late John and Matilda (Stumpf) West. On June 24, 1940 she married Howard G. Smith in Appleton.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be sadly missed by her daughters Sharon (Larry) Krause and Joanne (Jerry) Latza, all of Appleton; her sister Geraldine Goerke of Waukesha; her grandchildren Debra (Gary) Meulemans, Douglas (Becky) Krause, Mark (Brenda) Latza, and Sheri (Brian) Noel; thirteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard G. Smith, her infant brother Irvin, her other brothers Harvey, Art, and John West, her sister Gertrude Robbins, and a brother-in-law Douglas Goerke.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Wichmann Tri-County Chapel with the Rev. Jim Rademaker officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at the Wichmann Tri-County Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. A memorial fund is being established.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Franciscan Care Center for their care, compassion, and support given to our mother and our family.
