Frances Drephal, age 83, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, just three days after the death of her husband, Bob. Frances was born in Hamel, Minnesota on December 19, 1921, daughter of the late George and Annie (Van Lamoen) Van Schyndel. On November 3, 1945 she married the love of her life, Bob Drephal. The couple will be laid to rest together this Friday morning. Frances enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines, working with ceramics, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and everyone will remember her expert cooking and baking skills. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended morning mass and enjoyed her own little “social club” there.
She is survived by her four loving children: Barbara (Ted) Miller, Judy Janus, Robert (Sue) Drephal, and Chuck (Joyce) Drephal, all of Appleton. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she loved them all dearly. They include Brian Miller, Brett (Dana) Miller, Stacy (Mike) Van Handel, Debra (Jim) Longberg, Kim (Chuck) Jablonski, Bob Drephal, Jr., Elizabeth (Aaron) Anderson, Amber Drephal, and Brad Drephal; eight great-grandchildren: Collin and Cameron Miller; Paige, Rachel, and Nicholas Van Handel; Autumn Longberg; and Faith and Alex Jablonski; a sister: Anna Verkuilen of Kaukauna; two brothers: Martin (Ebby) Van Schyndel and Richard Van Schyndel, both of Kaukauna; a brother-in-law: William (Pat) Drephal of Appleton; and a special niece Anne (Merlin) Hein. She is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, a son-in-law Gordon Janus, a great-granddaughter Abigail Longberg, brothers Henry (Gen) Van Schyndel, Bernard Van Schyndel, Joe Van Schyndel, Arnold (Agnes) Van Schyndel, a brother-in-law John “Jack” Verkuilen, and a sister-in-law Ceil Van Schyndel.
The funeral liturgy for Frances will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2005 (TODAY) at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1825 N. McDonald Street in Appleton with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday (TODAY) from 3:00 PM until the hour of the mass.
