Florence R. Jansen
Age 85, formerly of Kimberly, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008, at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home in King.
Florence was born December 14, 1922, in Wrightstown, the daughter of Edward and Rosella (Baeten) Gussert. She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1940, and was united in marriage to James J. Jansen on November 29, 1941, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1987.
The Jansen's were Kimberly residents for over 50 years, and parishioners of Holy Name Catholic Church (Holy Spirit). Florence was a member of Homemakers, Ladies of Holy Name and belonged to the Christian Women's Club. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Kimberly and volunteered at the Valley Community Clothes Closet. For several years, Florence worked part-time in the bakery at Eiting's Grocery.
On May 17, 1929, at the age of six, Florence and her school friends were crossing the bridge in Kaukauna when a barge approached. The bridge drew open and Florence fell 50 feet into the canal. A policeman, James McFadden, and a school teacher, Elmer Ott, saved her life due to their quick response and actions to rescue her.
Survivors include her children, Mike (Cheryl) Jansen, Weyauwega, Pat (Dean) Walker, Kaukauna, Jim (Julie) Jansen, Oshkosh, and Jeff (Pam) Jansen, Kaukauna; eleven grandchildren, Chris Jansen, Susan Switzer, Matthew Jansen, Bill Jansen, Robert Withrow, Brian Withrow, Samantha Jansen, Taryn Jansen, Dani Jansen, Gabrial Jansen, and Emilie Jansen; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Promer, Kaukauna; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Roseann Gertz.
The funeral mass for Florence will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH, Kimberly Campus, 602 E. Kimberly Avenue, with Father David Beaudry as celebrant. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of mass at the church. Florence will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
The family would like to express their special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Ainsworth Hall of Wisconsin Veteran's Home in King for their loving care and support given to Florence while she lived there.
