Florence D. Moriarty, age 97, of Appleton, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on November 27, 2017, at Brewster Village. Florence was born in Brillion on December 18, 1919, daughter of the late Edward and Delia (Huebner) Broehm. She married Walter Moriarty on June 17, 1944. They were married 57 years before his passing in 2001.
Florence loved her family and making a home for them. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, needlework, home décor and her beloved little dog, Muffit. She loved her jobs at Mary Lester Fabrics and Kohl’s Department Store. Florence enjoyed working with people in her sales positions and many people came to know her over the years. After retirement, she and Walter spent many summers at their trailer at Casey Lake Campground in Waupaca, where they had many good friends. Florence also belonged to a quilters group and a golf league.
Florence is survived by her daughters: Karen (Michael) Fox of Tequesta, Florida, and Jean (Dan) Morey of Sherwood, Wisconsin. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Steve (Pam) Sowatzka of Appleton, Sarah (Scott) Moriarty-Rothell of Lindenhurst, Illinois, and Brian Sowatzka of Oshkosh; as well as her great grandchildren: Avriel Sowatzka and Ethan Moriarty. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings.
The funeral service for Florence will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 N Superior St., Appleton. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
