Selig, Florence M. (Klarner)
Florence M. Selig, resided at Brewster Village, died September 6, 2004, at the age 84. She was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on January 21, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Caroline (Zuleger) Klarner. She graduated from Appleton High School and was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church, Appleton. On March 3, 1941, she married Elmer P. Selig. They shared their life together for 54 years in Appleton until Elmer’s death in 1995. She is also preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Janet Rae Walker. Florence was employed by House of Steward Cosmetics, Viking Sewing, Newcomers Greeting Service and Zwicker Knitting Mills, until her retirement in 1985. She also volunteered her time to the “Gray Ladies”. Her love of public speaking was evident through several awards received from “The Toastmistress Club”. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Ridgeway Country Club for many years.
She is survived by a son, James J. Selig, Appleton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Gary Donelson, Appleton; Suzanne and John Leathersich, Middleton, WI; a son-in-law, Frank Walker, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Dawn (Robert) Spector, England; Cassandra (Scott) DeWitt, Appleton; Chadwick Walker, Sun Prairie; Michael Selig, Appleton; Caroline Walker and her fiancé, Scott Pelkin, Appleton; Kiley Davis, Clinton Twp, MI; Kathryn Rae Leathersich, Middleton; two great grandsons, Parker and Prescott DeWitt; a great granddaughter, Alexandria DeWitt, Appleton.
Funeral services for Florence will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 10, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church, 912, North Oneida Street, with Reverend Larry Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 pm, Thursday, September 9, and at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Florence was a person you would be proud to have as a friend, a daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She enjoyed life – all who have known her will miss Florence.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brewster Village for the excellent care they provided for her and their understanding of the sadness associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.
