Age 89, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at her home.
She was born April 18, 1916, in the town of Cicero, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Sanford and Velma (Thiel) Sylvester. Florence was united in marriage to Roy Engel on September 18, 1940, in Seymour. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1990. Florence’s family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with family, and loved their family gatherings. She was a long-time member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, and supported the Wyclisse organization. Crossword puzzles and Scrabble were her favorite pastimes.

Survivors include her son, Dennis (Barb Gibbons-Engel) Madison; her daughters, Jeanne Garvin, Menasha, and Barbara (Paul) Sturn, Neenah;; a son-in-law, Robert Dinse, Winneconne; there are eleven grandchildren, Kirsten Engel (Ron Miller), Jennifer Engel, Corissa Engel (Matt Nodich), Asa Engel, Lon Garvin, Heather (Brent) Senske, Joseph (Jean) Angell, Nickolas Angell, Emily Dinse, Sheila Sturn, and Renee Sturn; and four great grandchildren, Tyler Engel, Kyla Nodich, Lon Hadler, and Maiah Garvin. Florence was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Dinse, two grandsons, Andrew Sturn and Matthew Dinse, two sisters, Mildred Kluge and Arline Engel, and two brothers, Gordon Sylvester and Willard Sylvester.

Funeral services for Florence will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at WICHMANN TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 South Oneida Street, Menasha, with Rev. Mark Geisthardt officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Menasha. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. A memorial in her name is being established.
