Schroth, Evelyn M.
Evelyn Mary Schroth, age 90, died November 7, 2009, at Appleton Health Care Center. She was born on August 5, 1919, in Ellington, the daughter of the late Henry and Clara (Komp) Schroth. Evelyn graduated from Shiocton High School and then continued her education at the University of Wisconsin- Madison with advanced degrees from the University of Illinois at Champaign. She taught four years in Wisconsin at Rhinelander and Waupun, ten years in the Chicago school district, a professor of English at the University of Illinois, a lecturer at Chicago Teachers College, South and retired in 1987 as Professor of English at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. During World War II, she served as a USO program director for the National Council of Catholic Bishops in Renton, Washington and Champaign, Illinois and later served a program director for Neuman Foundation at the University of Illinois.
Evelyn is survived by her sister-in-law, Janis Schroth of Appleton; nieces and nephews: Gregory (Cheryl) Schroth of St. Charles, IL, Sue (John) Barker, Algonquin, IL, Patti (Steve) Culp of Palatine, IL, Marie (Paul) Grassly of Crystal Lake, IL, Mary (Bernie) Schaeffer of Palatine, IL, Theresa (Mike) Bednarek of Palatine, IL, Stephen Schroth of Galesburg, IL, Anne (Kees) Schroth-Heesters of Baltimore, MD, John (Jessica) Schroth of Milwaukee, Paul (Carol Nawrocki) Schroth of Shawano and Karen (Jerome) Riese of Kenosha. Evelyn is further survived by 23 great-nieces and nephews and several cousins and their families. She is preceded in death by brothers, Stanley and Irvin, and a sister-in-law, Marguerite.
A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Thomas Farrell officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of mass.
