Evelyn Guckenberg, age 98, of Neenah, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 2, 2023 at The Gardens Adult Family Home surrounded by her family. She was born December 18, 1924 in Kimberly, daughter of John and Othelia Schuh. Evie married Peter Guckenberg on October 18, 1943 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1996 after 52 years of marriage.
As a founding member of St. Bernard Catholic Parish in Appleton, Evie was a faith-filled wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She will forever be remembered for her delicious cooking, extravagant cakes and beautiful quilts and crocheted afghans - all made with love. Evie enjoyed Friday night fish fries and Sheepshead with Father John and the card group along with many hours spent doing puzzles with and reading to her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her brother, Reverend Monsignor John Schuh, children Peter (Suzy), Jim (Diane), Mary Jo (Larry) Plamann, Mike (Tina), Thomas (Marsha). Grandchildren Josh Guckenberg, Katie (Mat) Destree, Timothy (Kathy) Guckenberg, Tony (Melanie) Guckenberg, Casey (Bridget) Plamann, Abby (Eric) Hopfensperger, Ryan (Patty) Taggart, Sean Guckenberg (Tiffany Tucker), Matthew (Shirin) Guckenberg, Meg Guckenberg, Tiffany (Steve) Gehrig and Jennifer (John) Mehlhaff. Great grandchildren Hazel, Christopher, Allison, Calen, Kyler, Ruxin, Rennin, Hunter, Charlie, Teagan, Connor, Reese, Brandon, Fiona and Bianca. Great-great grandchildren Cohen, Grayson and Emmet. Evie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other special relatives, cousins and friends.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth and Delmar Schuh, sisters-in-law Ann and Joanie Schuh, grandsons Gary, Randy, and Allen Guckenberg and her granddaughter Lara Plamann.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 9, 2023 at St. Bernard Catholic Parish in Appleton with Reverend Monsignor John Schuh officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds will be distributed according to Evie's wishes.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the wonderful and compassionate caregivers at The Gardens. We truly appreciate all that you did for mom/grandma!
Mom/Grandma, you will be forever in our hearts and we will cherish the many great memories of a life well lived!
