Evelyn D. McFadden

Age 93, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute. She was born July 11, 1912 in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Michael and Emma (Trettin) Gerharz. Evelyn graduated from Holy Cross Grade School and in the 1930 class of Kaukauna High School. She attended Lawrence College and the University of Wisconsin, majoring in Home Economics. Mrs. McFadden taught at Kaukauna Vocational School and at the time of her retirement in 1967 was coordinator of Homemaking Activities. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the State Homemakers Club where she held various offices and once served as State Chairman. Evelyn was one of the organizers and an active member of the Advisory Committee of the Kaukauna High School Alumni Association. She served as President from 1971 to 1972 and was the recipient of the Alumni Award in 1975. Evelyn was also a member of the Kaukauna Community Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at St. Paul Home, where she organized the Birthday Bingo Group.

She is survived by her sister-in-law: Ruthe Gerharz of Kaukauna; several nieces and nephews: Dennis (Dixie) Gerharz of Little Chute and Kaukauna, and their children: Brad Gerharz (Evelyn’s Godson) and his special friend Jodi of Little Chute and Craig Gerharz and his special friend Kelly of Little Chute; Tim (Diane) Gerharz of Pound, Wisconsin and their children: Michael (Sara) Gerharz of Oconto Falls; Jill Gerharz of Green Bay; Marcia (Michael) McPhail of Kaukauna and their children: Shannon McPhail of Redmond, Washington and Erin McPhail of Kaukauna; Kristine (Robert) Hennes of Kaukauna and their children: Stacy (Brian) Headson of Kaukauna, Alisa (Ryan) Gaffney of Kaukauna, Kaitlin Hennes and her fiancé Eric DeGroot of Kaukauna; Sherry Van Daalwyk of Kimberly and her son Jake Van Daalwyk, and his dad Charles Van Daalwyk, both of Appleton. Evelyn is further survived by her special friends Rose Marie Van Dyke, Sr. David Marie, Rose Dennigan, Patti and Hermie Maes, and Gordy and Gilda Hennes. She was preceded in death by her husband: James I. McFadden on December 25, 1985 and by a brother, Michael Gerharz.

The funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Saturday morning from 8:30 AM until the time of service. The men chosen to honor Ev by bearing her casket will be Dennis Gerharz, Tim Gerharz, Michael Gerharz, Craig Gerharz, Brad Gerharz, Robert Hennes and Michael McPhail.

A memorial fund has been established for the Holy Cross Tuition Fund.
