Evan Albert Lemke

February 16, 1995 — July 12, 2001

Jesus took Evan to heaven on Thursday, July 12, 2001 quickly and painlessly. Evan had a previously undiagnosed congenital anomaly. Evan was born in Green Bay on February 16, 1995, son of Pete and Deirdre (Malmberg) Lemke of Kaukauna. He was an excellent student, an avid reader, and had just finished Kindergarten at Nicolet School in Kaukauna. He was very much looking forward to beginning first grade next month.

Evan was the most active of kids. He loved to swim, bike, wrestle, ride his scooter, play soccer, and was able to beat even the adults at computer games. His favorite times were spent playing “Army” with his neighborhood buddies, other friends, and cousins. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed spending time at the cabin. Even at his tender age, he showed a great deal of respect for nature, and was currently trying to “figure out” a way to make paper without cutting down trees. He was committed to recycling and saving the rain forests.

Evan surely enjoyed his ice cream РBlue Moon was his favorite. He also liked the “wiggly” kind of bacon – not the crispy kind. Those who knew him well will long remember his skills as a master negotiator.

He was mature beyond his years and was the best big brother Elyse could ever have asked for. She affectionately referred to him is “My Evvie”. He was also a trusty companion to the family dog, Tavia. His mom and dad, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins thought the world of him.

He is survived by his parents: Pete and Deirdre Lemke of Kaukauna; his little sister: Elyse Lemke at home; his maternal grandparents: Alvin and Doris Malmberg of Green Bay; and his paternal grandparents: Tom and Pat Lemke of Kaukauna.

His many aunts and uncles include Deirdre’s brothers and sisters: Denise Malmberg of Kenosha; Donna (Jim) Freund of Green Bay and their children Josh, Jessica, and Jillian; Diane Malmberg of Green Bay; Dawn Byrne of Green Bay and her children Kara and Brendan; Debbie (Mark) Lubinski of Neenah and their children Brian, Laura, and Justin; Doreen Malmberg of Kaukauna; David (Lisa) Malmberg of Green Bay and their children Kasey and Hannah; Daniel (Mechelle) Malmberg of Green Bay and their son Ian; Dena (Rocky) LeSage of Green Bay and their children Quinton, Christopher, and Collin. Other aunts and uncles include Pete’s brothers: Tim (Sue) Lemke of Stockbridge and their children Alizabeth, Emma, and Tara; Chris Lemke of Appleton; Matt Lemke of Appleton; and David Lemke of Kaukauna. He is also survived by his Godparents Kim and Michael Seering of Green Bay and their children Isaac and Olivia.

The funeral liturgy for Evan will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Irvin Udulutsch, OFM Cap. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 – 8 PM and again at the church on Tuesday from 10 AM until the hour of the service. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at the funeral home at 7:30 PM Monday.

Pete and Deirdre will direct memorial contributions to Evan’s own special project – saving the rain forests.

Larger than Evan’s mind was his heart. He would gladly have given his life to save that of another. And in a way, little Evan did. Many of his organs are continuing to function even today within recipients throughout the Midwest.

Our Evan, always giving of himself.
