Eunice “Eunie” Reider, 91 ½, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Eunice was born on December 16, 1924 to Henry and Margaret (Biese) Van Zeeland in Appleton. She worked in Sturgeon Bay during WWII as “Rosie the riveter” and later met her husband, Tom, while working at Appleton Wire Works. Eunice was united in marriage to Thomas Reider on October 11, 1947 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and together they raised 7 wonderful children. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, square dancing, quilting, and playing cards. Eunice also liked her Mission ladies and card clubs that she was a member of. She loved playing cribbage with her husband and later with her grandchildren. Chocolate chip cookies were a specialty that she always had available. Eunice had the unique ability to connect with others instantaneously. She was always there for her family and friends.
Eunice is survived by her children; John (Judy) Reider, Ardell (Greg) Schultz, Bob (Lori) Reider, Lee (Karen) Reider, Vicky (Ed) Hofkens, Amy (Mark) Bushman, and Tom (Kelly) Reider, 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson Nicholas, and two brothers and five sisters.
The funeral liturgy for Eunice will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Ave., with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff on the 4th floor at St. Elizabeth hospital. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the Mission Ladies and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
The impact of Eunice's life can be heard in a recent conversation between Granddaughter Lauren and her 4 year old son Braxton during a car ride home;
Braxton “When will great Nana come back?”
Lauren “She won't be coming back bud, she's in heaven now.”
Braxton “Can we go to heaven?”
Laurent “I wish we could”
Braxton “Look it up on your phone, I bet you can find a shortcut”
Lauren “There aren't any shortcuts to get to heaven”
Braxton “Oh, well just follow the way Great Nana took”
Eunice's time on earth ended Tuesday, August 16, 2016. She was happy to say that she was 91 ½ years old. The day before she left God blessed her with a vision of her eternal home – Heaven. She was both excited to go and sad to leave all her loved ones here on earth.
Thank you God for giving us mom to show us how to live right!
