Eugene (Geno) R. Smith, age 89, of Menasha passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023, at his home. He was born on March 6, 1934 in Menasha, WI, son of the late Irene Smith and Melvin Smith, Sr. He was a graduate of Menasha High School in 1952. On April 12, 1958, he married to the late Carol (Boldt) Smith at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI. The marriage was blessed with 55 years, four daughters, and one son. He worked at Winnebago Color Press for over 40 years and retired in 2009.
Geno served six years (1956-1962) as a Private First Class in the US Army Corps of Engineers in Germany. He was honorably discharged and received the Army of Occupation (Germany) and Good Conduct Medals.
He spent much of his later years playing sheepshead with friends and was an active volunteer at Prairie Home Assisted Living in Menasha where he called Bingo and enjoyed visiting with the residents. He recently celebrated 10 years as a volunteer. His ministry was visiting with the residents and bringing laughter with his jokes and stories of service in the military. He also loved his church, building relationships while attending bible study, and visiting with church friends and staff at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
He loved his family and always had a good joke to tell whether appropriate or not LOL. He was always interested to know what his children and grandchildren were doing day to day. When not volunteering, he enjoyed relaxing in his recliner with a good Word Search, an episode of a good western TV show, game show or cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers.
He will be missed by his daughters: Merrie C. (Dean) Weyenberg, Neenah; Stacey J. Krieck, Menasha; Jill J. (Eric) Hendricks, Neenah; his son, Rocklyn R. Smith, Menasha; grandchildren: Michelle Weyenberg, Dana (Erik) Mork, Amara (JD) Doctors, Sean (Katie) Miller-Smith, McKenzie Kempen, Dillon Kempen, Damian Smith, Madison Smith, Valorie Bacon; great grandchildren: Landon and Lincoln Mork; Kennedee Miller-Smith, and MacKenzie Allison; a brother; Butch Smith, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
