Eugene J. Riley, age 85, of Appleton, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008. He was born September 30, 1922, to the late Clarence and Anna P. (Arts) Riley in DePere and had been an Appleton resident for 51 years. Eugene served with the U.S. Army during WW II in the Corps of Engineers. He married Lucille Vande Walle on December 30, 1944; she preceded him in death on January 29, 2003. Eugene was a master electrician and worked for the IBEW Local #577 all over the area, retiring in 1986. He volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul several days a week and was a member of the Fox Valley Area Labor Council Retirees Club. He is survived by three children, Barbara (Jim) Goehler, Menasha; Jim (Kathy) Riley, Birmingham, Alabama; Robert (Karen) Riley, Little Chute; six grandchildren, Bryan (Kristen) Goehler, Sara (Adam) Clark, Christopher Riley, Jonathan (Kristy) Riley, Andrew Riley and Bradley Riley; a great granddaughter, Anika Marie Goehler, a brother, Robert Riley; two sisters, Evelyn (Bob) Desmond and Helen Klika. A memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 – 7 pm, Friday, June 6, 2008. Private family services will be held. Inurnment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
