Eugene “Gene” Losselyong, age 87 of Menasha passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022. Gene, as he was affectionately known to all, was born on October 21, 1934, to Nicholas and Theresa Losselyong. Gene’s mom passed away when he was just 9 years old, and he was 14 when his dad died; and the young siblings were raised by Aunt Margaret. It was a difficult time for the family, but it forged within them a strong bond that lasted throughout their lives.
Gene was raised in Appleton, and Gene met the future Mrs Losselyong (Kathleen Holloran) when she was on a date with “another fella.” Shy Gene asked Kathy for a dance and a couple months later, destiny struck Kathy and Gene when he bought a round of beers for Kathy and her friend, soon after they attended a ski meet in Navarino where Kathy recalls “never being so cold.” Gene invited Kathy out for New Year’s Eve, and she already had a date, so he asked her out the next weekend. The rest is 64 years of history.
Gene drove semi-truck for Ashland Chemical for 28 years. Kathy and Gene started their family with baby Todd when they lived in Appleton; soon after they built the second house on 10th street and proceeded to add four more to their family! He was always involved and went to see every sporting event that his children were involved in! Gene was known for racing his grandkids around the house when they came to visit
“Pasquali Wally,” as Gene came to be known following a stint working at a local gas station; was known as a man who never worried about anything. He was happy go lucky and never let anything bother him. His motto was “why worry, you can’t do anything about it.” Wally, as he came to be known by his family, loved all things outdoors and all manner of sporting events-especially those for his grandkids.
Wally was sassy and loved to have a smart remark for anyone who entered a room. He will be remembered for his friendly demeanor, his love of family, his happy-go-lucky spirit, enjoying a good trip to the casino and Friday night fish fry with his beloved.
Gene will be greatly missed by his wife Kathleen, children Todd (Sara) Losselyong, Kari (David) Tracey, Rick (Michele) Losselyong, and Kellie (Rich) Szymanski. He is further survived by grandchildren Heidi (Andrew) Macemore, Cory, (Jessica) Losselyong, Amy Losselyong, Kalie (Phil Castilleja) Tracey, Ty Tracey, Laken Tracey, Chelsie (Jim) Peterson, Tanner Losselyong, Katie (Justin Wendel) Krueger, Krista Krueger, Tyler Krueger, Tyler (Ashley) Szymanski, Trevor (Cassie Harvath) Szymanski. Great grandchildren Jack, Felicity, Jameson, Paxton, Jacob, Benjamin, Cora, Hudson, Benson, Tayten, and Kip will miss his laughter and snuggles. Sister Elizabeth Nemecheck, sisters in law: Dolores Losselyong, Betty Losselyong, Vivian Losselyong, Elaena Losselyong as well as Jolene Verstegen (Amy’s mother) will also mourn Gene’s passing.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his parents in law Martin and Agnes Holloran and son Randy and daughter-in-law Lanette Losselyong, brothers David, Karl, Dan, Don, Jerry, brother in law Robert Nemecheck, and half brother and sister-in-law John and Wilma.
A funeral liturgy for Gene will be held Friday October 21, 2022, at 10:30am at St Joseph Catholic Church, 410 W Lawrence Street, Appleton, WI. Friends and family may gather at the church from 8:30am until the start of mass.
