Geno Jannsen, age 73, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Appleton Medical Center. He was born in Hilbert on October 7, 1932, son of the late Edgar and Catharine (Joas) Jannsen. He served his country as a member of the United States Army, and was stationed in Alaska. His military service brought him membership in the Electric City Post #3319 of the V.F.W. where he was the former chaplain. On April 25, 1957, he married the former Barbara Schinke. Over the years, Geno worked at a variety of jobs, most notably at the Clover Grocery Store and the Carnation Plant in Chilton, as well as at Voith Paper and Bend Industries in Appleton. Geno was also the former owner of the Log Cabin Tavern in Chilton and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #953. He enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and sheepshead, and loved his polka music. Those that knew him well knew that his most prized possessions were his children and grandchildren – he loved them all very much.
Geno is survived by five children: Debra (Dale) Korslin of Chilton, Rick (Nancy) Jannsen of Juneau, Chris (Corey Alberts) Jannsen of Green Bay, Kathy (Al Schreiber) Loose of Kiel, and Kelly (Kurt) Wollersheim of Chilton; fifteen grandchildren: Patrick (Pam) Daul, Nicholas (Trisha) Daul, Kristina Daul, Jessica Daul, Jessica Hopson, Daryl Kleist, Jessica (John) Westphal, Derek Jannsen, Wesley Jannsen, Jason Jannsen, Alexandra Loose, Kyler Loose, Tiffany Schreiber, Brandon Wollersheim, and Hunter Wollersheim; a great-granddaughter: Emma Jean Daul; a sister: Ruth (John) Skahen of Chilton; a special friend: Theresa Eiting of Combined Locks; two nieces: Judy (Donald) Wesener and Diane Skahen; and his former wife, Barbara DeWitt. Geno was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Evelyn Head Jannsen, and a brother-in-law Donald Sell.
The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2005 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, and again Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Following the service, military honors will be provided by the members of Electric City Post #3319 of the VFW.
