Eugene Charles Hipp “Gene”

Age 76, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2001. Eugene was born on January 21, 1925 in Combined Locks, the son of Walter and Ellen (Hansen) Hipp. He resided in Appleton for most of his life. Eugene was employed at American National Can; where he retired in 1987, after 36 1/2 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving on the ship USS Terror. On January 27, 1951, Eugene married the former Charlotte Leonhardt, and they have celebrated over 50 years together. He attended Mount Calvary Seminary, and was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order for over 60 years. Eugene will be greatly missed by his wife Charlotte; 6 daughters, Beverly Schwahert; Ellen Irwin; Patricia Hipp; Barbara Hipp; Deborah (Dennis) Pritchard; Natalie (Steven) Heaney; 5 sons, Robert (Carolyn); Thomas (Julie); James (Eva); Kenneth (Cynthia); Timothy (Paula) Hipp; 35 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; his son-in-law, Lee Howe; his sister, Donna (Edward) Froeming; and 2 sisters-in-law, Beatrice (Abraham) Weiner; Phyllis (William) Kulick. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ellen (Hansen) Hipp; his father and mother-in-law, Clara and Philip Leonhardt; his daughter, Susan; a grandson, Christopher Howe; 2 sons-in-law, Arthur Schwahert; Tom Irwin; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and August Pollack; and his brother, Sheldon. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. John Holly, OFM Cap. officiating. Interment will be held in Highland Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to benefit Mother Teresa’s Sisters of Charity would be appreciated.
